FAQ

security and intimacy

Is the iYU experience safe?

We designed the iYU experience as a moment of absolute relaxation, where safety and well-being are paramount. The safety of the iYU system is guaranteed at all times.

iYU’s robotic arm was developed in Germany by Kuka, a world leader in robotics. The LBR Med, used by iYU, is the only collaborative arm specifically designed for medical applications, complying with strict safety standards (IEC 60601-1:2005).

During each iYU session, the security system constantly monitors the 28 sensors on the arm. At the slightest anomaly, the system immediately interrupts the session. In case of excessive pressure or another irregularity, the arm stops instantly, the table lowers, and the user can safely get up. This safety device is tested daily during the startup routine, ensuring that each day of use is marked by safety and well-being.

iYU data management complies with GDPR standards, the European regulation guaranteeing the highest standard of data protection worldwide.

iYU does not collect any personally identifiable data. The system only scans the user’s morphology in the form of a point cloud, gathers their session preferences, and tracks their interactions with the system anonymously. The goal is to tailor the experience in real-time for a fully personalized service.

No medical data is recorded. The user simply confirms their ability to participate in the session based on the provided contraindications. All this anonymous data is stored on our servers in France, in compliance with European legislation.

All our sessions comply with safety standards for body pressure thanks to three elements:
Expert practitioners design the protocols in accordance with authorized pressure limits.
The control software limits the pressures to those allowed by health standards.
The KUKA LBR Med robotic arm constantly monitors the pressure exerted, ensuring optimal safety throughout the session.
These three levels of control ensure safe and effective massages for an optimal well-being experience.

iYU follows the same contraindications as traditional massages, categorized into three levels based on international medical recommendations:

Black Flags: Require complete avoidance of massage

  • Progressive cancer: Massage may interfere with treatments or worsen the condition.
  • Advanced osteoporosis: There is a high risk of fracture with strong pressure.
  • Hemophilia: Massage can increase the risk of internal bleeding.
  • Acute infections and febrile infectious states: This includes severe infections like Covid-19, shingles, or high fevers, which may spread or worsen with massage.
  • Severe respiratory conditions: Conditions such as severe asthma or chronic lung diseases may be exacerbated by lying face down, making breathing difficult.
  • Recent non-healed fractures: Fractures less than 3 months old, especially in the massaged area, must avoid any pressure to prevent complications.

Maternity
:

  • Pregnant: During the first 3 months due to the increased risk of miscarriage, and from the 3rd to 9th months, lying face down is no longer suitable.
  • Breastfeeding: The lying position may not be comfortable due to post-partum body changes.

Orange Flags: Indicate significant risk and require careful evaluation

  • Acute inflammatory flare-ups: Conditions like rheumatoid arthritis can worsen if massage is performed without specific adaptations.
  • Severe neurological and renal diseases: Conditions such as multiple sclerosis or severe kidney stones require careful evaluation to avoid symptom exacerbation.
  • Major circulatory disorders: Recent thrombosis and severe varicose veins in the massaged area require adjustments to avoid complications such as phlebitis.
  • Moderate respiratory conditions: Breathing difficulties that may be affected by the lying position, requiring adjustments for comfort.

Yellow Flags
: Left to individual discretion and may require special attention

  • Recent injuries: Bruises or not fully healed scars in the massaged area should be avoided or treated with caution to prevent complications.
  • Localized skin conditions: Eczema or herpes in the massaged area may be sensitive to touch and require massage adjustments.
  • Mild musculoskeletal conditions: Mild scoliosis or muscle pain in the massaged area can be massaged cautiously after individual assessment.
  • Discomfort related to the position: Some people may feel uncomfortable lying face down, requiring adjustments to improve comfort during the massage.

It is always recommended to consult a healthcare professional for an appropriate assessment of your specific condition before receiving a massage, whether robotic or not.

Furthermore, the use of the system is prohibited for people under legal guardianship or curatorship, as well as minors under 16 years old.

iYU experience

How does AI intervene in this massage robot?

AI is at the heart of the iYU experience, intervening at three key stages:

  1. Digitization of expert knowledge: iYU integrates the movements of the massage therapist in the form of a digital twin. This model is then recorded in the system and serves as the basis for iYU’s massage protocols.
  2. 3D scanning of users: During the session, iYU’s AI creates a digital twin of the user’s morphological structure in 3D. This scan provides a detailed map of the muscle structure and targeted tension points, allowing for a customized massage treatment.
  3. Real-time adaptation: iYU’s AI adjusts the generic body model in real-time to perfectly match the user’s 3D morphological structure. This ensures that the massage path is precisely aligned with each user’s unique body shape.

Most iYU protocols are available in 20, 35, and 45-minute formats. When creating your protocol menu, we help you define the ideal duration based on your needs and the experience you want to offer your clients. If you like a 20-minute protocol and want to extend it, contact us, and we’ll adapt it to a 35 or 45-minute format.

Hygiene is a priority during each session. A small silicone membrane called “iYU Skin” is placed on the robot’s hand. It is reusable for up to 100 sessions and can be cleaned with soapy water or disinfected. Hygiene between the user and the massage table is ensured by using a paper sheet or an individual towel, along with the disinfection of exposed areas (headrest, armrest, remote control) before each session.
Many parameters are customizable to ensure a tailored experience while keeping it simple for optimal relaxation. Before the session, a welcome kiosk allows you to define the parameters of your personalized session with just a few clicks. You’ll start by selecting the massage protocol that suits your needs, followed by your sound ambiance, with sample clips provided to help you choose. Finally, you can select the temperature of the table. At any time during the session, you can adjust the massage pressure using the remote control, within the limits defined by the expert masseur for the chosen protocol.

No, it’s not possible to keep your clothes on during an iYU massage. For optimal effectiveness, the massage is performed directly on bare skin, allowing for deep work on the muscles and fascia. The friction helps stretch the tissues, maximizing the benefits of the massage. iYU massages can be performed without oil for intense muscular work or with oil for more relaxing sessions, with deep pressure point work and gliding motions for maximum relaxation. If you’ve seen iYU demonstrations with clothes, these were public events or exhibitions. While this version is pleasant, it remains less effective than a massage on bare skin.

Direct contact with the skin is one of iYU’s unique features, with or without oil. The iYU Skin is the result of several years of research and development by Capsix, resulting in a soft, slightly adhesive texture that perfectly mimics the feel of human skin. This innovation allows for a deeply relaxing effect by stretching the muscular and subcutaneous tissues. The iYU Skin is made of medical-grade, hypoallergenic silicone, with a manufacturing process patented by Capsix. After over 15,000 massages performed, no allergic reactions to iYU Skin have been observed.

We offer three main families of massage protocols, each designed to meet specific wellness needs, with pressures and massage techniques tailored for an optimal experience:

  • Body: Target the body and muscles. The pressures are strong, and the massage techniques are more precise, particularly to target muscle tension points (trigger points). These techniques effectively release accumulated tension and promote deep physical relaxation. Ideal for those looking to relieve muscle tension after physical exertion or a long day.
  • Mind: Soothe body and mind tensions. Pressures vary from medium to strong, depending on your needs. The massage techniques are more longitudinal, stretching and relaxing the muscles while targeting tension points linked to stress. These protocols can be performed with or without oil, depending on the desired effect. Perfect for disconnecting from daily stress and regaining mental balance.
  • Soul: Go beyond the physical and mental, offering a true reconnection to oneself. The pressures are moderate, and the massage techniques are enveloping, providing deep comfort. These massages are performed with oil to enrich the sensory experience and promote holistic relaxation.

Each protocol is carefully designed to provide a complete wellness experience, adapted to your specific needs.

We currently offer 5 distinct massage protocols, each available in three durations: 20, 35, and 45 minutes. These options allow each massage to be tailored to clients’ specific needs, whether it’s to relieve muscle tension, relax, or foster inner reconnection. Some sessions combine elements from different categories, such as Body and Mind or Mind and Soul, to offer a more balanced and personalized approach.
We offer massages with or without oil, depending on the chosen category. Soul protocols are always performed with oil for a richer sensory experience, while Mind massages can be done with or without oil, depending on preferences. Body protocols are generally performed without oil to allow for more targeted maneuvers.

Massages offer many scientifically proven benefits:

  • Relief from muscle tension
  • Stress reduction
  • Improved sleep
  • Management of chronic pain
  • Increased concentration
  • Long-lasting effects with regular practice

Ideally, a weekly session optimizes the benefits of massages, particularly for relieving tension, reducing stress, and improving sleep. Regularity helps maximize positive effects in the long term.

No, iYU is designed to complement, not replace, human therapists. By taking care of routine massages, iYU frees up therapists to focus on more specific and personalized treatments that require a human touch. iYU also attracts new clients who, due to modesty, privacy, or religious reasons, prefer a massage without human presence. Moreover, iYU creates opportunities in places where therapists have not traditionally been present, such as airports, shopping malls, and offices. Rather than taking jobs, it expands access to wellness services, allowing more people to benefit from massage, 24/7.
